June 18 – 23, 2015
Hotel Playa Del Sol – Baja BCS
Fish Count
3 Blue Marlin – 31 Stripe Marlin – 20 Sailfish
9 Tuna – 2 Dorado – 1 Shark

Not since the June trip, 2013 have we had a Billfish count like this one. That trip in 2013 caught only 2 more Billfish than we did on the 106th.
Another beautiful sunrise greeted 25 anglers and guests on the first day of fishing. 19 anglers fished on a total of 22 Cruisers (18 in tournament). If you missed this one, we could have used more help, and we ended up with over 3 fish per angler, 66 total.
We experienced a first ever, since 1984, as a woman was crowned TOP ANGLER, catching a total of 3 Marlin, 2 Sailfish, and 3 Tuna. She is now known as our “First Lady of the Dark of the Moon.”

Melodie Eckland, Hillsboro, Oregon on the left and Brad her husband on the right also won 2nd place Team honors and monies. Tracy Totey, Albany, Oregon presented the awards. Their total count was 5 Marlin 2 Sailfish and 5 Tuna.

Leo McArdle, Pacifica, California, left, and Al Hipona, Daly City, California captured the top team honors, catching 8 Sailfish 2 Marlin, one of which was a Blue Marlin which was released, weighing approximately 225 lbs. All awards were presented by Mike Totey, Albany, Oregon.

Roland Martines, Alta Loma, California on the left caught this 315 lb. Blue Marlin, which did not survive and was brought ashore. His partner, Steve Spies, Upland, California on the right has been instrumental in assisting Roland, age 92, and keeping him fishing since 1992. This fish helped them
Earn 3rd place team honors.

4 Rookie Anglers participated in this event and all 4 caught their first Billfish on the first Day. I had the pleasure of fishing with Leslie Angelo, Somerset, California shown here who hooked and caught her first at 7:30 a.m. Leslie also took Top Non-Bill Trophy and monies with a 36 lb. shark.

27 out of the last 29 anglers in the last 3 years have been successful.

The Top Rookie trophy was taken by Todd Jeffers from Georgetown, Texas. He caught 2 Marlin, one of which was a Blue, over 200 lbs.

52 of the 54 Billfish were released.
We sure hope to see you on the 107th event, October 29 to November 3, 2015. Several of the anglers on the 106th have already signed up. Call now!!
Come and help us release all of the turtles like we have the last 2 years.
